This role supports the Avon & Mendip team at Natural England, helping to protect and improve nature across the Wessex area.
Working behind the scenes, you’ll help teams stay organised, manage their work smoothly, and deliver important projects. It’s a varied role that supports everything from planning and land use to public engagement and admin.
What it will involve?
You’ll be helping different teams by organising information, managing documents, and supporting events and meetings. This helps make sure important work runs smoothly. You’ll get clear guidance and support, with the chance to build confidence and learn new skills as you go.
Some of the tasks you might be doing include:
Creating spreadsheets and reports to help track conservation projects
Organising meetings, visits and community events
Supporting admin tasks like answering enquiries or keeping records up to date
Helping develop content for our social channels or online updates
Logging and updating casework records linked to land or marine work
Is this role right for me?
You might enjoy this role if you like working with others, using a computer, and keeping things organised. If you enjoy solving problems, being helpful, or are interested in nature and climate, it could be a great fit, even if you’ve never had a job like this before.
What skills will I use?
Communicating clearly: whether writing emails or speaking with colleagues
Staying organised: keeping track of tasks and information
Problem-solving: working out what to do when something isn’t clear
Using technology: from spreadsheets to video calls
Teamwork: contributing as part of a friendly, supportive team
How will I be helping protect our environment?
Your work will support projects that protect wildlife, restore habitats, and help people connect with nature. By keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes, you’ll be part of a team making a real difference to the future of our environment.
What’s great about working here
Natural England is a welcoming, supportive place to work. You’ll get proper training, a mentor to help you settle in, and time for learning and volunteering. You’ll also get generous holiday, flexible working options, and access to discounts and wellbeing support.
At Natural England, we want everyone to thrive. We’re as committed to creating an inclusive culture as we are to protecting our environment, and welcome applications from a wide range of communities.
