Peri

Engagement Assistant
Age - 24

Peri’s role as Engagement Assistant at Cymdeithas Eryri/Snowdonia Society enabled her to combine her love of art, education, and the outdoors. Although she started with no prior experience in the conservation sector, her New to Nature placement gave her the opportunity to make an impact in Eryri National Park, while paving the way for a creative future in the sector and beyond.

After finishing school, Peri was uncertain about what to do next and felt there were limited options available to her. The New to Nature programme provided the perfect opportunity for her to work in a structured role that helped the environment, but didn’t require a degree.

Peri’s background in art helped her bring a creative flair to her engagement role, which involved doing office-based tasks, such as designing social media posts, and supporting with outdoor education workshops. This experience showed her the ways she could combine her passion for art and the natural work to engage others.

“The increased confidence and the training opportunities I’ve had will be with me for wherever I end up next, as well as being useful in other areas of life.”

The New to Nature placement being entry-level and accessible gave Peri the chance to explore her interests and figure out what she wanted out of a career.

In the future, she hopes to continue to combine creativity and nature in her work. By engaging the public in conservation efforts, she aims to spark meaningful change and inspire others to protect the natural environment.

New to Nature is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund as part of the celebrations to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and the King’s Coronation, delivered through a partnership of Groundwork, The King’s Trust, Disability Rights UK, Mission Diverse and the Youth Environmental Service.
